Weymouth Tennis Club Inaugural Walking Tennis Session a Huge Hit

Our Participation Committee, along with the LTA, are very keen to encourage clubs and coaches to introduce Walking Tennis (WT) programmes.

David Lloyd, Chair, Participation Committee, was delighted to be invited by Clive Stow, coach at Weymouth Tennis Club, to attend and take part in the inaugural session of the Walking Tennis programme he is launching at the club. With the ball allowed to bounce twice, it provides a simple and highly accessible introduction to the game.

Thanks to Clive’s excellent efforts, around ten players attended and enjoyed an hour-long session on court. The group included a wide range of participants, some who had not played since their school days, others who had come through the U3A and regular club member Greg (former Club Chair) who is recovering from a heart problem and a previous fall that has significantly affected his mobility. He particularly enjoyed the session and valued the opportunity to return to the court and hit tennis balls again.

At the end of the session, everyone gathered in the clubhouse to socialise and enjoy tea and biscuits kindly provided by Clive and his wife.

This was a fantastic start to what will undoubtedly be a very successful programme.

We would be very keen to hear from other clubs and coaches who are running, or planning to run, Walking Tennis sessions. Please do share details of your programmes, along with any photos, so we can help showcase and promote this growing initiative across the wider tennis community.

If you would like to get in touch, please contact David Lloyd at participation@dorsettennisandpadel.co.uk
