Executive Committee Members

John FeaverPresident

John played tennis for Dorset, both junior and senior teams.  Between 1970 and 1983 he competed in the Davis Cup, Grand Slams and on the Tour.  He played in 42 countries and enjoyed the travel as well as the competition.  John worked at the LTA for 20 years in Events and Sponsorship and sat on the Main Board for 4 years.  He represented Europe on the ATP and WTA Boards as well as the Committee of the All England Club and The Championships, Wimbledon.

John is now President of the International Club of Great Britain and Chairman of the Advisory Board of StreetGames, a national charity, as well as Chairman of the Trustees of Performance Plus Sport.

He is passionate about Dorset Tennis and is open to new ideas of how to get more players playing and enjoying the game at all levels.


Brian Cooley - Chair

Brian has always enjoyed racquet sports and has played tennis in Dorset for the last 20 years. Currently supporting Seniors tennis as Captain of Dorset 60's squad he is a keen advocate for the dynamic game of Padel and is focused on helping to develop the infrastructure inside the LTA.

He has worked in multiple business sectors both in Europe and the USA as a CEO, CFO and COO in private and public companies and brings a diverse set of skills to help drive the agenda for Dorset Tennis. He is currently leading on sponsorship initiatives for Dorset Tennis and if anyone has fund-raising ideas at club or County level, Brian is always open to meet and chat things through.

James Thurgur - Secretary

James has been a keen tennis player for over 30 years and is an active member of the West Hants Club since moving to Dorset twelve years ago.  James grew up in Warwickshire where he first learned to play tennis and has since represented clubs in the Coventry & District, Berkshire and Dorset tennis leagues. More recently James has discovered padel which he enjoys playing alongside tennis. James lives in Bournemouth with his wife and two teenage daughters and is currently a partner with an international accountancy firm. When his is not playing, James enjoys watching tennis and is hoping to visit all the major tournaments.

Atit Parab - Treasurer

Atit first started playing tennis at the age of 10 at the YMCA in Pune, India, where he developed a lifelong love for the sport. He holds a degree in Computer Science and has over twenty years of experience in the financial industry, working for one of the world’s largest banks. His career brought him to Bournemouth in 2017, and since then he has been an active member of the West Hants Club. Alongside tennis, Atit has a strong interest in photography, with a particular passion for capturing the rising full moon each month.


Nick Chapman - Trustee

Nick has played tennis in Dorset since he moved to the county 30 years ago and has been a member of Sherborne Tennis Club since then. He was born and brought up in Kent, where he played his junior tennis, representing Sevenoaks School. He has represented his club in Dorset, Yeovil and District and national leagues, and latterly has represented the County at in the 55’s and 60’s.

He has been involved with the running of Sherborne Tennis Club for many years, and has been its Chair since 2016. Nick worked for the NHS for 33 years, as a Hospital Chief Executive in Dorset, and in Somerset, and then in national roles. He is married to Philippa and has a son, a daughter and a grandson.  Nick is now unable to play able bodied tennis as he is a wheelchair user.


David Walrond - LTA Councillor for Dorset / Chair, Competitions Committee

David has been involved in tennis in Dorset since 1987 when he moved to the county as a teacher.

He played in the Dorset Leagues up to a few years ago and organised many school events which led on to him helping Betty Booth with the 12U County matches until the mid 1990’s.  He became a Club Chairman at a local club before getting co-opted onto the Executive Committee in the 2000’s to help with Competitions and went on to get his Referee qualifications so that he could run the County Championships after the previous referee decided to step down from the role. He is now a R3 referee and helps to organise and run several Dorset Grade 3 tournaments as well as other weekend tournaments including County Cup events and the 2024 Dorset Padel Championships.

In 2022, David stepped down from the role of Chair, Competitions Committee to take on the role of LTA Councillor for Dorset from 2023 onwards. He is keen to promote participation and competition for all ages and abilities in Dorset.


Sue White - Safeguarding Officer

Sue retired as a Detective from Dorset Police after around 20 years specialising in Safeguarding, and last year also retired from her role as Club Chair at St Leonard’s & St Ives Tennis Club after 20+ years of voluntary service.

Sue has played tennis in Dorset since moving to Dorset over 30 years ago and plans to continue playing club & county matches for many more years.

David Lloyd - Chair, Participation Committee

David hails from Birmingham, learning his tennis in the local park before joining his first club at the age of 13. Since then he has been passionate about promoting tennis and supporting the various clubs he’s belonged to in many roles from being men’s captain, committee member, and at Springfield tennis club in Birmingham back in 1980, as Chairman heading up a major development. He represented Staffordshire as County Veterans Captain for several age groups before moving to Dorset In 2009 where he currently Captains the O75 County men's team.

In his role as Participation Chairman, David has enjoyed visiting clubs in Dorset to meet their volunteers and to see what help his committee can give by way of grants and advice to increase participation and wellbeing in the County.


Vik Sanderson - Chair Padel Committee

Vik is a lifelong active racquets player, across four key sports; badminton, squash, racquet ball - all at county level - and more lately a passion for Padel tennis…

From junior badminton for Devon, then moving to London, and quickly becoming club champion at squash for both Hampstead Cricket Club and the Cumberland Lawn Tennis Club . She played in the Queen’s Cup Squash League, and County senior squash for Middlesex.

When she moved to Dorset with her family in 2007, she played county and competitive squash and racquet ball  and became National O45’s Racquet Ball Champion in 2016.

Vik has had a lengthy career as a Senior Physiotherapist within the NHS and sports injuries, having trained and worked in London, before working for Salisbury and Poole NHS Trusts. She now works for a private Occupational Health company.

Vik is a long term West Hants Club member, and in the past has actively promoted squash and racquet ball throughout the county; she is now hoping to warmly embrace the chance to use her experience and drive to help promote padel across Dorset in all demographics.


Annie MitchenerTrustee

Annie has played tennis all her life having been encouraged to do so by her parents who believed if you can play an average game of tennis, you'll always find a tennis club and friends wherever you are in the UK, Europe or the World! She has always been keen on fitness and does strength training as well as High Intensity training as an addition to help her tennis. Annie plays tennis most weekdays with matches at the weekend and now sits on the Exec as well as the Performance and Competitions committees to give back to tennis. Annie organises the club championships, box leagues and various competitions at David Lloyd Poole.


Annie Smith - Operations Director / Volunteer

Annie is our Operations Director, implementing the Executive Committee's strategy on a daily basis.  She works closely with all the various committees and their volunteers.  She also volunteers her time for Dorset LTA and represented the County as LTA Councillor 2020 to 2023.

She has a real passion for the sport having taken it up later in life when her children started playing.  She was Secretary at a local club for almost 10 years years during which time she became a Dorset LTA volunteer on the Competitions Committee.  She has worked within tennis for the LTA, Somerset LTA and Dorset LTA since 2009.  She enjoys keeping active in her spare time playing tennis, padel and getting out on her bike.

Phil Loose - County Performance Coach, 8U - 11U

A former ATP tour player and a representative of Great Britain, Phil has also represented Dorset as a junior and for the Open and 35+ levels.  As a coach, Phil has successfully established a thriving community-based club in Wimborne and a tennis academy that has helped develop and support players to achieve success at county, national, and international levels.
